PRESIDENT TINUBU ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS TO ELEVATE NIGERIA'S HEALTHCARE SECTOR

In a strategic move to enhance the standards of public health administration in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a series of leadership changes within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The newly appointed Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers are poised to bring about a paradigm shift in the country's healthcare landscape.
1. National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC):
- Board Chairperson: Dr. Mansur Kabir
- Chief Executive Officer: Prof. Moji Adeyeye
2. National Blood Service Commission (NBSC):
- Board Chairperson: Prof. Abba Zubairu
- Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Saleh Yuguda
3. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN):
- Board Chairperson: Prof. Afolabi Lesi
- Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Fatima Kyari
4. Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN):
- Board Chairperson: Pharm. Wasilat Giwa
- Chief Executive Officer: Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed
5. Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN):
- Board Chairperson: Dr. Babajide Salako
- Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Tosan Erhabor
6. Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH):
- Chief Medical Director / CEO: Prof. Adamu G. Bakari
7. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH):
- Chief Medical Director / CEO: Prof. Reuben Eifediyi
Additionally, to strengthen the country's public health surveillance, President Tinubu has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC):

- Director-General / CEO: Dr. Olajide Idris (to assume office on February 19, 2024)
These appointments reflect the President's commitment to delivering quality healthcare to all Nigerians and aligning the sector with international best practices. The President believes that the wealth of experience possessed by the appointees will play a crucial role in advancing his Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Olajide Idris, the incoming NCDC Director-General/CEO, brings extensive experience, having served as the Commissioner of Health in Lagos State and holding a Master's degree in Public Health from Yale University.
Prof. Abba Zubairu, the new NBSC Chairperson, has a distinguished career, including serving as the Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Dr. Fatima Kyari, the appointed MDCN CEO, is a renowned ophthalmologist and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Medicine.
President Tinubu anticipates that under the leadership of Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, these changes will usher in a new era of excellence, transforming the healthcare sector for the benefit of all Nigerians.
